Tom Hanks-5-1024x767Hanks was reunited with Ron Howard in his next roleas the Commander and Astronaut Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 (1995). Critics generally applauded the film as well as the performances by the entire cast that included actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan. The movie also earned nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. Hanks was the voice actor for Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's 1995 computer-animated feature Toy Story (1995). The following year, he made his directing debut with the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) about the decline and rise of a popular 1960s group. He also played the role of a producer. Richard Schickel of Time magazine said that his performance was "charming" and the majority of reviewers agreed with the fact that Hanks performance earned his place in the best romantic comedy actors of his generation.
